Health and Safety for High-Level Commercial Cleaning

Health and safety sits at the centre of how Palmer & Co plans, delivers and audits commercial window cleaning, high-level cleaning and access-led maintenance. Our work often takes place at height, around occupied buildings, near public areas or on sites where access, timing and communication all need to be carefully controlled.

We support managing agents, facilities managers, building owners and commercial clients who need confidence that work will be planned properly before it starts. From access assessments to RAMS, rescue planning, trained operatives and traffic management where required, our focus is on safe, organised delivery.

Accreditations and Memberships

Palmer & Co is supported by relevant accreditations and memberships that reflect the standards expected by commercial clients. These include IRATA, SafeContractor, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Federation of Window Cleaners and Living Wage Employer.

These accreditations help demonstrate the business’s approach to quality, safety, environmental responsibility, working at height and professional standards. They also give managing agents and facilities managers a clear point of reassurance when appointing a contractor for window cleaning, specialist access or planned maintenance.

How We Plan Safe High-Level Work

High-level cleaning and maintenance needs the right method, the right people and the right process. These areas help shape how Palmer & Co plans work before operatives arrive on site.

Trained, Directly Employed Teams

Palmer & Co uses directly employed operatives with training suited to the work being carried out. Depending on the task, this can include rope access, powered access, harness training, rescue training and other role-specific preparation used to support safe working at height.

Having a directly employed team helps maintain consistency in how work is planned, communicated and delivered. It also supports a stronger working culture, where operatives understand the expectations of the business, the importance of safe delivery and the standards required on commercial and managed buildings.

Planning, RAMS and Work at Height

Before complex or high-level work begins, Palmer & Co looks at the scope of the job, the building, the access route and the surrounding environment. This may include reviewing drawings, photos, previous reports and carrying out a site visit where needed.

From there, the team can prepare site-specific risk assessments, method statements and rescue plans where required. The work at height hierarchy is considered when choosing the right access and methods, whether that involves rope access, platform access, cradles, BMU systems or reach and wash.

Mobilisation, Traffic Management and Permits

Some sites need more than a straightforward access plan. Palmer & Co can help coordinate practical requirements such as mobilisation meetings, pre-start briefings, toolbox talks, traffic management, lane closures, road closures, TTROs, lighting isolations and crane permits where required.

This is especially important for city-centre buildings, public-facing properties, heritage buildings, commercial offices and sites where tenants, visitors, staff or vehicles may be affected. The aim is to make sure the work is properly understood before it begins, with everyone clear on the method, risks and their role.

Trusted by Commercial Clients Across Scotland

Client feedback helps show the trust placed in Palmer & Co by managing agents, facilities managers and commercial clients who need safe, reliable work carried out with minimal disruption.

Was on the market for a water fed pole for my new softwash set up, the boys there sorted it out and had everything in stock. Also got a chemical injector nozzle and a free brush head when purchasing the pole. All the stuff is on display so you can actually get hands-on to what you are wanting to buy.

I visited the store for a telescopic pole and water backpack. I've got no firm knowledge of the window cleaning trade, but the team at Palmer assisted me tremendously, providing the necessary fitments and assembly of the product. Great service. Great business. Great people. Thank you.

Story time On one dreichet day in the capital, my flatmate and I sat, staring out of the window waiting for inspiration to strike, when around the corner pulled up a fleet of Palmer and Co vans and a truck. We were stunned. The workforce stepped out, gleaming in the January drizzle and set to work cleaning the windows of the opposing building to us. We were in awe as three daring souls stepped into the capsule and were sent heavenward to the windows in the sky. Bravery. We realised we only had one chance to get this right as we entered onto the Spotify app. S Club 7 began to ring in all its glory, giving them the confidence to ‘Reach for Stars’... and the windows, they certainly sparkled like constellations on that day. Peace out.

Having audited this company at length, we have found them to be professional, diligent and they have the ability to demonstrate key attention to detail. 3Spires observed Palmer & Co.'s workforce perform their day to day functions window cleaning at height and it became apparent that not only do the management possess positive culture but it transcends through the work force too. We would recommend them to all.
