Cradle and BMU Access for Commercial Buildings

Palmer & Co operates cradle and BMU systems for commercial cleaning and maintenance on buildings where installed access systems provide a practical route to high-level areas. These systems are commonly used for window cleaning, façade cleaning and other external works on larger commercial buildings.

Cradle and BMU access needs experienced planning and competent operatives trained to operate installed access systems, including Specialist Access Engineering & Maintenance Association (SAEMA) Part 1 training and Part 2 onsite training where required. The system itself is only part of the job. The work still needs to be organised around the building, weather conditions, site users, operating limits, safety checks and the task being carried out.

Using Installed Access Systems for Commercial Cleaning

Cradle and BMU systems are often found on larger commercial buildings, hotels and managed properties where regular access to high-level windows and façades has been designed into the building. When used properly, they can provide an efficient method for carrying out recurring cleaning and maintenance tasks.

Palmer & Co may use these systems for commercial window cleaning, façade, render and cladding cleaning and planned works on commercial offices or hotels and hospitality buildings, where the access system is suitable for the work required.

When Cradle and BMU Systems Are the Right Choice

Cradle and BMU systems can be a strong option where a building already has suitable equipment in place and the task can be carried out safely within the system’s working limits. They are often well suited to planned, recurring work on larger buildings where the same elevations need regular attention.

They are not always the best method for every area. Some buildings may still need rope access, platform access or reach and wash systems for areas that the cradle or BMU cannot reach. Palmer & Co considers the building and the task before deciding how the work should be carried out.

Planning, Checks and Safe Operation

Before using a cradle or BMU system, the work needs to be planned properly. That includes checking the suitability of the system for the task, considering weather conditions, access routes, exclusion zones, communication, emergency arrangements and the people using the building.

Palmer & Co approaches cradle and BMU work as part of a wider health and safety process, with site-specific RAMS where required. For managing agents, facilities managers and building owners, this helps ensure that planned cleaning and maintenance work is carried out in an organised, controlled and competent way.

Was on the market for a water fed pole for my new softwash set up, the boys there sorted it out and had everything in stock. Also got a chemical injector nozzle and a free brush head when purchasing the pole. All the stuff is on display so you can actually get hands-on to what you are wanting to buy.

I visited the store for a telescopic pole and water backpack. I've got no firm knowledge of the window cleaning trade, but the team at Palmer assisted me tremendously, providing the necessary fitments and assembly of the product. Great service. Great business. Great people. Thank you.

Story time On one dreichet day in the capital, my flatmate and I sat, staring out of the window waiting for inspiration to strike, when around the corner pulled up a fleet of Palmer and Co vans and a truck. We were stunned. The workforce stepped out, gleaming in the January drizzle and set to work cleaning the windows of the opposing building to us. We were in awe as three daring souls stepped into the capsule and were sent heavenward to the windows in the sky. Bravery. We realised we only had one chance to get this right as we entered onto the Spotify app. S Club 7 began to ring in all its glory, giving them the confidence to ‘Reach for Stars’... and the windows, they certainly sparkled like constellations on that day. Peace out.

Having audited this company at length, we have found them to be professional, diligent and they have the ability to demonstrate key attention to detail. 3Spires observed Palmer & Co.'s workforce perform their day to day functions window cleaning at height and it became apparent that not only do the management possess positive culture but it transcends through the work force too. We would recommend them to all.
